As many of you know, we have kicked off a new year here in Colquitt County with the 4-H Program. We have already completed two months of club meetings in all Colquitt County Schools. The celebrations of National 4-H Week within the county was a huge success! Going into classrooms on Wednesday was such a delight. Seeing all the 5th grade 4-H'ers wearing green really made the week even more exciting!
In September, we took 4 high school 4-H'ers to Youth Summit at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Georgia. The delegates learn how to better their community through gaining knowledge about their community and by seeking issues that need strong attention. Coming back to Colquitt County, the 4 students were selected to participate in Teen Maze. Pictured to the left from left to right are Joe Wiggins, Brad Duncan, Alex Gay, and Ashley Carroll.

In October, 5th grade students were given the opportunity to participate in an Essay Contest, Cloverleaf Project Achievement. The students were to write an essay about either something they enjoyed spending their time doing or on something they knew a lot about. After judges reviewed the essays we had 64 students win for the county. These 64 students will continue on to District Competition on November 10th. CONGRATULATIONS to these 64 students and to all the students who participated.
During the week of the GA National Fair, we took 50 students to Perry to spend the day learning about 4-H projects and riding all the wild rides! 4-H'ers were everywhere covered in green and white representing 4-H and all it stands for. The 7th and 8th grade 4-H'ers were pulled aside to experience The Seed Survivor Booth in order to build their portfolios and learn more about water shed, erosion, nutrients in the soil, and even planted their own sunflower to take home. Picture below is Ashley Carroll, Senior 4-H'er, teaching 7th and 8th graders at The Seed Survivor Booth.
Currently, Junior and Senior 4-H'ers are working on portfolios and getting their demonstrations ready for Jr./Sr. Project Achievement. To stay updated on Colquitt County 4-H, continue checking our blog or the county website at http://www.caes.uga.edu/extension/colquitt/.
